SCALES

 

For the ones among you who want to understand the different scales,
or want to make a flute tuned another way than the popular pentatonic mode 1,
these tables explain you several scales,
by showing you the intervals between the notes, for each of them.
To read these tables,
just select the fundamental note of your flute in the left column,
and then, the notes needed for each given scale are highlighted in orange,
left to right, according to the steps parenthesized.
The notes highlighted in red are additional ones,
allowing you to achieve an extra mode on the same intrument.
These red notes are typically used on six holes pentatonic flutes,
basically tuned on five holes to achieve the scale on a given mode,
giving the opportunity to achieve an alternate mode with the extra hole,
when possible.

To make things easier, all the half tones are written with a "#"...
If you are familiar to read some of these half tones with the flat extension (b),
here is a little table with equivalences:

A#=Bb

G#=Ab

F#=Gb

D#=Eb

C#=Db
